The Colts need to learn from a massive mistake they made during their Week 8 loss to the Texans
The Indianapolis Colts came up short in Week 8, losing to the Houston Texans for the second time this season. They are now 4-4 on the year, and even though they lost in Week 8, there's a clear positive that bodes well for the coming weeks. The Indianapolis Colts came up short in Week 8, losing to the Houston Texans for the second time this season. They are now 4-4 on the year, and even though they lost in Week 8, there's a clear positive that bodes well for the coming weeks.
The team got Jonathan Taylor back on the field, and he picked up right where he left off. The only negative aspect of the run game is the Colts' puzzling decision not to lean on it earlier and more often.
Jonathan Taylor and the run game needs to be the engine that drives the Colts offense
Taylor was forced to miss the past three weeks due to the high ankle he suffered in the team's Week 4 win over the Pittsburgh Steelers. Before getting injured, he had recorded at least 100 rushing yards in three of the team's first four games and found the endzone four times.
He added to both of those totals in Week 8, with him rushing for 105 yards and one touchdown on 20 carries. Shockingly, though, the Colts didn't prioritize getting Taylor going on the ground early in this game. During their first five-play drive, they called five straight pass plays, one of which was a first down catch for Taylor. He went on to only have eight carries in the entire first half.
There was a slight increase in production in the second half, with him rushing 12 times. But with Taylor and quarterback Anthony Richardson offering you such a dynamic rushing attack, there's no reason for Taylor only to have 20 carries while also having Richardson drop back 32 times. There needs to be a better balance going forward, and if one is going to be the focus of this offense, it needs to be the running game.
Shane Steichen let Anthony Richardson and the Colts’ offense down in their Week 8 loss to the Texans
The Indianapolis Colts had multiple chances to win against the Houston Texans in Week 8, but they ultimately fell short. The trend online is to blame second-year quarterback Anthony Richardson for this loss, but I didn't see it that way at all. Shane Steichen's poor play-calling let Anthony Richardson and the Colts' offense down The […]
‘Don’t listen to anything anyone says online’ – Colts WR Alec Pierce sends valuable message to young NFL players struggling early in their career
Alec Pierce's NFL career didn't get off to as fast of a start as he or the Indianapolis Colts would have liked after he was drafted in the second round of the 2022 NFL Draft. He didn't let the outside world lower his confidence because he knew the type of player he was, and he's putting […]
