Colts place OT Jack Wilson on IR and sign DT Josh Tupou
Wilson joined the Colts' practice squad for the first time in early October last season and spent a few weeks with the team before being ultimately released. He signed a future contract with the team after the year concluded and was part of most of the offseason activities. Sadly, he had missed the last few practices with a pectoral injury, and now we know it was severe enough to land him on the IR. Wilson's massive size at 6-11 had some intrigued about what he could possibly develop into at the NFL level. Sadly, he will have to wait to try to be the next college basketball player to successfully make the jump to the NFL, having previously been a member of the Minnesota basketball program.
To fill the newly added roster spot, the Colts are signing Tupou. He began his career as an undrafted free agent with the Cincinnati Bengals in 2017. He was part of the team for six years, appearing in 65 games and making 23 starts. He played under the now Colts defensive coordinator Lou Anarumo from 2019 to 2023. His first three seasons with Anarumo were the best of Tupou's career, logging 22 of his 23 starts during that span. His most recent stop was with the Baltimore Ravens, with whom he spent last season, and appeared in three games. He now reunites with Anarumo in Indianapolis and will try to earn a spot as a reserve DT for the Colts. Tupou has seemed most comfortable as a nose tackle at the pro level, so he will look to become a backup to Grover Stewart. The player he will probably be in the most direct competition with in the Colts' sixth round pick is Tim Smith, with the two being the only seamless fits to play NT behind Stewart currently on the roster.
