The 2024 NFL Draft cycle is starting to pick up, with the first wave of pro days now in the books.
All 32 NFL teams are putting the finishing touches on their personal draft boards.
Below is a full seven-round mock draft of how I believe the Indianapolis Colts' 2024 NFL draft class could shake out.
7-Round Colts Mock Draft:
Round 1
Pick 15: Terrion Arnold, CB, Alabama

The Colts lack of moves in the secondary to date is beyond troublesome. Many, including myself, would have preferred to see them target an offensive weapon with this pick. But Terrion Arnold has started to separate himself as the top CB in this class during the draft cycle, and if he's on the board at their pick, CB is currently too big of a need for them to pass on a talent like Arnold.
TRADE:
Colts send 2024 2nd round pick (46), 3rd round pick (82), 5th round pick (151) and their 2025 3rd
Buccaneers send 2024 1st round pick (26) and 3rd round pick (89)
We've never seen Chris Ballard pull off a trade back into the first round during his tenure as the Colts' general manager, but I think their lack of holes on their roster could lead to them taking a big swing on the ones they do have.
Pick 26: Xavier Worthy, WR, Texas

Texas WR Xavier Worthy was a player I had entirely written off for the Colts after seeing him weigh in under 170 lbs. It's just not been the type of WR that Ballard has targeted at WR for the Colts. But I've realized that Shane Steichen has a lot of sway on the roster moves made on the offensive side of the ball. They've done a ton of pre-draft work on Worthy, whose elite speed and play style would provide Steichen endless possibilities in terms of play calling. And I think he could undoubtedly warrant this aggressive trade back into round one.
Round 3
Pick 89: Jaden Hicks, S, Washington State

Like CB, the Colts have an obvious need at safety. Currently, they don't have a single trustworthy starter for the position. So, a free agent signing or a draft pick at both FS and SS is a must. Washington State's Jaden Hicks has a unique skill set that could allow him to fit either spot at the next level. I think his best role would be as a box safety, but he provides significantly more upside in coverage than the typical player in that role.
Round 4
Pick 117: Tanor Bortolini, C, Wisconsin

One of the biggest winners of the 2024 NFL Scouting Combine was Wisconsin offensive lineman Tanor Bortolini. Who showed off his excellent athleticism with his testing scores. Bortolini spent time all over the line in college, both guard spots, right tackle, and center. The position that he intrigues me for the Colts is at center. The Colts have a reliable starter in Ryan Kelly, but if he chooses to hang up the cleats in the next couple of seasons, it could be wise to begin developing his successor.
Round 6
Pick 191: Joe Milton III, QB, Tennessee

The Colts have their starter and backup with Anthony Richardson and Joe Flacco, but adding competition for their QB three job with Sam Ehlinger could make sense. Richardson is a unique QB to say the least, with his special athletic traits and build. He will be a difficult QB for teams to prepare for, and Tennessee's Joe Milton III could be the perfect scout QB for teams to use against the Colts. I think adding Milton to Indianapolis would take that possibility off the board, and would allow them to develop him into their backup QB.
Round 7
Pick 234: Tyler Owens, S, Texas Tech

Last but not least is another combine standout in Texas Tech safety Tyler Owens. Owens recorded the second furthest broad jump in the history of the Scouting Combine this year, which certainly turned some team's heads. It will go a long way toward Owens becoming a drafted player instead of a priority undrafted free agent. Owens' athleticism should allow him to compete for a special teams role as a rookie, but he also could have teams that think his upside is worth attempting to develop the safety.
