The Indianapolis Colts, like the rest of the NFL, are in the process of adding the final touches to their personal draft boards.
According to Justin Melo of The Draft Network, the Colts have recently expressed interest in an Ohio State defensive back.
With him reporting that the Colts are one of the teams that Ohio State DB Josh Proctor has recently received interest from.
Proctor began his college career in 2018 at Ohio State and spent his entire six-year career with the university. He appeared in 53 games at Ohio State and started 19 of those games. His first year as a full-time starter was this past year, where he set his career highs with 47 total tackles, four tackles for loss, and his first defensive touchdown. Proctor is a versatile player who spent extensive time at multiple spots in the secondary last season. He played at least 150 snaps at both safety positions and in the slot but spent most of the season as a deep safety, where he logged 298 snaps.
Ohio State trusted Proctor to use his instincts quite a bit last season, which came as a surprise after he lost his presumed starting job in 2022 after battling back from breaking his right leg in 2021. At the NFL level, I think he best projects as a depth player who can play in a pinch at either safety position, with his potential being the highest as a FS. But I think he can be a really productive special teams player, which could help him make a roster as a potential late-day-three draft pick.
For the Colts, though, I was shocked to see their interest in him as a player. While he fits their need in their secondary and has solid size for the position at 6'1", he isn't quite the athlete they typically go for, with a pretty average performance at the Scouting Combine with a 4.55 40-yard dash, a 10'1" broad jump, and a lackluster vertical at 32.5". I think Proctor can be a player who outperforms his draft slot, but I'd be pretty surprised if it ends up being in Indianapolis with the Colts.
