The Indianapolis Colts could be interested in an offensive lineman who spent time at three different positions during his college career ahead of the 2024 NFL Draft.
According to The Draft Network's Justin Melo the Colts virtually met with South Carolina offensive lineman Nick Gargiulo.
Gargiulo started his college career in 2018 at Yale and spent his first five years at the university before transferring to South Carolina last season. He redshirted his first season after appearing in just one game. In 2019, he started all ten games for Yale at LT, and after a year off due to the Covid-19 pandemic in 2020, he returned as the team starting LT in 2021 for the first four games before suffering an ankle injury that ended his season. When he returned from the injury in 2022, he was no longer the team's starting LT but moved to C, where he started all ten games, leading to him earning his first and only "First Team All-Ivy" honor. This leads us to last season when he transferred to South Carolina, where he started all 12 games for the Gamecocks, seven at C and five at LG.
Another important element of Gargiulo as a prospect and a person is that he was named a team captain for both Yale and South Carolina over the last two seasons. This is a trait that the Colts have often targeted with their draft selections during Chris Balard's tenure as the team's GM. At the 2024 NFL Scouting Combine, he measured in at just over 6'5", weighed in at 318 LBs, and his wingspan came in at 81.25". This solid frame, paired with his impressive 32.5" vertical and next-level 7.33 3-cone, likely entices multiple teams.
He has experience playing all over the offensive line but is best suited to play on the interior at either center or guard at the pro level. The Colts starting offensive line is in place for next season, but they could use depth on the interior, which makes Gargiulo a solid fit for the Colts. He is projected to be drafted on day three of the NFL draft between the 6th and 7th rounds. The Colts have two starters entering the final year of their contracts this season: C Ryan Kelly and RG Will Fries. So Gargiulo's high upside on the interior could make him one of the prospects to watch for when the Colts are on the clock during the later rounds of the 2024 NFL Draft.
