The 2024 NFL schedule has yet to be released, but each team knows who their home and away opponents will be.
And there are a few intriguing matchups on the docket for the Indianapolis Colts in 2024.
The Colts only landed one nationally televised game during the NFL's initial schedule release, their Week 10 matchup with the New England Patriots in Germany. But with that start time being in the morning, I wouldn't call it a primetime game. That could change with an exciting young QB in Anthony Richardson set to make his return from injury and a few fun matchups that could make for good TV.
The 5 most likely Colts games to get primetime slots
1. Vs./@ Houston Texans
I think the most likely matchup to watch for is a rematch of the Colts Week 18 matchup, which ended up being the decider of the AFC South champion against the Texans. The battles between CJ Stroud and Anthony Richardson will be great television for the foreseeable future. I also think the success of the Texans and Stroud last season will likely result in them getting a solid increase in primetime games. With the Colts and Texans having two matchups a year, I think it would be smart for the NFL to put at least one on national television.
2. Vs. Buffalo Bills
Up next is the Bills, who will be coming to Indianapolis next season. With Josh Allen at QB, the Bills will always be a top contender for primetime games, which makes this one to watch for sure. Richardson has gotten a lot of comparisons to Allen via the two's playstyles. I think it would be an easy game to market, and if it's later in the season, the game could have some important playoff implications for both teams.
3. Vs. Detroit Lions
Another home game on the list with the Lions set to come to Indianapolis this season. The Lions are another team that I have high on this list based on my belief that they will likely land a solid number of primetime games. The Lions are coming off a loss in the NFC Championship and are considered one of the true Super Bowl contenders in the NFL. And while Jared Goff isn't the same caliber of QB as Allen mentioned above, the Lions team is too good to keep off national television.
4. @ New York Jets
The first and only true road matchup to make this list is the Colts matchup in New York vs. the Jets. The NFL planned for plenty of primetime games for the Jets last season, thinking Aaron Rodgers would be under center, but unfortunately, an injury on the first drive of the season ended his year before it could truly begin. With Rodgers expected back to start the season, I could see the NFL again giving the Jets a large number of primetime games and, more importantly, home primetime games, which gives their matchup with a young QB like Richardson a shot.
5. Vs. Chicago Bears
The fifth and final game I have on the list is the Colts' home matchup with the Bears. This one makes my list because I strongly believe they will draft a new QB with the first pick in the 2024 NFL Draft. And with a rookie QB such as Caleb Williams, I think primetime games will follow. One of those slots pairing Williams against another young, promising QB would make sense for the NFL, and while Richardson and the Colts aren't the only young QB-led team set to play the Bears, I think they'd have a shot.
