The NFL schedule makers disrespected the Indianapolis Colts

The NFL released the offical 2024-2025 schedule Wednesday night.

They told the Indianapolis Colts exactly how they felt about them as a team by giving the Colts only one primetime game.

The Colts play their only primetime game on Sunday Night Football in Week 11 against the New York Jets. And to make it worse, the Colts' only primetime game comes on the road, meaning they have no primetime games in Indianapois this season. Looking at the league as a whole, the Colts are one of four teams that have only received one primetime game with the New England Patriots, Arizona Cardinals, and Tennessee Titans. The only team with fewer primetime games than this group is the Carolina Panthers, who receive zero.

And while the Colts are one of the smaller markets in the NFL, there are multiple rosters that, in my opinion, have no business having more primetime slots:

  • Denver Broncos (2 primetime games)
  • New York Giants (3 primetime games)
  • New Orleans Saints (3 primetime games)
  • Tampa Bay Buccaneers (4 primetime games)

If the Colts play well enough they will have the opportunity for one or more of their games later in the season to be flexed into a primetime slot. And I believe second-year QB Anthony Richardson and Shane Steichen's offense will make them regret not respecting this group more. I expect them to be one of the highest-scoring offenses in the NFL, and I expect Richardson to become a player fans all across the NFL will want to watch each week.

This is something the team needs to use as extra motivation entering the season. Not only to potentially earn a late-season flex but to earn future primetime games from NFL schedule makers. Whether or not the NFL schedule makers mean it this way, they tell us a lot about how they feel about your team when assigning these primetime slots. And they essentially told the Colts they don't feel they are a team people want to watch across the country. But complaining about it isn't going to change anything; it's time to prove them wrong.
