This season is the definition of a make or break year for many of the Indianapolis Colts' staff and roster. The stakes are the highest, Anthony Richardson, though, who can either prove himself to be the team's franchise QB, or could be a backup elsewhere come 2026.

A recent A to Z article shared some bold predictions for the upcoming season for each of the AFC South teams. The prediction for the Colts would suggest that Richardson's time with the team is coming to an end.

Anthony Richardson predicted to not take that next step as a passer

"Hot Take: Anthony Richardson rushes for more touchdowns than he throws in 2025

I believe that we're going to see Danny Dimes at the helm when the Dolphins come to town to play the Colts in Week 1. There have been too many warning signs of a situation that's simply not coming together for Richardson. His lost time during the spring only gives Daniel Jones more of an edge in the open competition. But Richardson is too good of a force multiplier as a power runner with a potent set of weapons to simply not find a contributing opportunity. Red zone, short-yardage, etc? I think Richardson can be a killer weapon here amid the presence of Jonathan Taylor and rookie Tyler Warren. And, given the on-field opportunities a role like that can present, I think Richardson runs in more than he throws while Jones carries the primary passing responsibilities." – Kyle Crabbs

AFC South Hot Takes

The next hurdle Richardson must overcome is the upcoming training camp battle with Daniel Jones to be the Colts' starting QB. If he wants to win that battle, he has to improve and be more consistent as a passer. His ability as a dual threat makes defenses nervous, but he won't become the Colts' franchise QB if his ability as a runner is his main asset. Even if he can win the starting job, if he finishes with more rushing touchdowns than passing, like the prediction above shares, the Colts still won't feel comfortable saying they've found their QB of the future.
