The Indianapolis Colts have opened the 21-day practice period for RB Jonathan Taylor and plan on the RB suiting up once again as a Colt.
After Ian Rapoport made Taylor's trade request public, many questioned if we had seen the last of Taylor repping the horseshoe. My sources with the team have never wavered, though they always believed they hadn't seen the last of Taylor in a Colts uniform.
While they listened to trade offers from before their self-made deadline and answered calls when they came after the season began, they never compromised on the value they believed it would take for a team to pry Taylor away from them. I've been told no offer ever even tempted the Colts into accepting.
The 21-day window now opens for Taylor, and head coach Shane Steichen has left the door open for him to potentially play as early as this Sunday when the team hosts the Tennesee Titans.
"He will be back with the team he's practicing Wednesday, he will be out there with us. Have had great conversations with him, he's super excited to be back with his teammates and looking forward to having him."
"He's in good shape conditioning wise obviosuly putting on the pads is a diffrent deal. I know it's been a long time since he's played football, so we'll see how pracrice goes this week, see where he's at physically from putting the pads on and we will go from there."
– Colts Head Coach Shane Steichen
Since these words from Steichen, we have learned that the Colts have canceled practice Wednesday and will instead have a walk-through. This means we won't see Taylor practice until Thursday, but he will take part in the walk-through.
When I reached out to a team source about when to expect Taylor to make his 2023 season debut, they had the following to say:
"From what I've been told, he (Taylor) stayed in good shape during this entire situation, which will play into his favor when it comes to the timeline for his debut. I think if it's not this week, it'll be next week, and I can't wait to see him and AR make defense's lives hell."
