Colts could be affected more than any other team in the league by the latest update from the NFL

The NFLPA report cards going away is unfortunate for the entire league, but it may affect the Colts more than any other team.

The Indianapolis Colts are going through their first full offseason under their new ownership. Last offseason, longtime owner Jim Irsay passed away; therefore, the team was passed down to his three daughters, Carlie Irsay-Gordon, Kalen Jackson, and Casey Foyt.

This has the team in a unique spot going forward. There is a lot of mystery surrounding how things could be different with the way the team operates.

One way fans and the franchise could have gotten feedback on the new ownership was through the NFL Players’ Association’s (NFLPA) annual report cards. Sadly, a new update from the league makes that not an option for fans. With the news that the NFL has won its grievance with the NFLPA, effectively ending their report cards being made public.

Colts fans will never see how the teams nee ownership is viewed by players via the NFL report cards

Every year, players through the NFLPA ranked the ins and outs of the teams they played for, from the quality of food provided to the performance of ownership.

For example, last year’s NFLPA report card gave the Colts the following grades:

Treatment of families: B- 16/3
Food/dining area: C 25/32
Nutritionist: B+ 18/32
Locker room: B 14/32
Training room: B 13/32
Training staff: B 15/32
Weight room: B- 23/32
Strength coaches: A- 14/32
Team travel: D+ 27/32
Head coach: A 11/32
Ownership: B 20/32
Overall ranking: 19/32

For every other team, their grades from a year ago still reflect the current ownership in place. Providing a clear guideline to fans on where their favorite teams need to improve to better serve their players.

Colts fans don’t have that ability, as the grading of how the teams new ownership will not be made public. Preventing them from seeing how their first year running the team since Jim’s passing was perceived by their players. And fans don’t get to see where the team improved and regressed across the board under new leadership.

Hopefully, the NFLPA and the NFL can work out an alternative because the players deserve to have their voices heard on how teams are serving them throughout the season. Without this public criticism, it feels like teams that have been failing to care for players in their locker rooms properly will continue to do so. And that doesn’t help anyone involved.
