The biggest priority for the Indianapolis Colts has to be ensuring that Anthony Richardson is put in a position to succeed. Richardson is gearing up for his rookie campaign in the NFL and will be playing for a first-year head coach.
Indianapolis is not empty of weapons on offense. Jonathan Taylor led the NFL in rushing two seasons ago, and Michael Pittman is a proven commodity on the outside. But it would not hurt the Colts to make another move or two.
Fortunately, one of the most high-profile wide receivers in the league just became available. DeAndre Hopkins is now free to sign with any team after being cut b the Arizona Cardinals. And one NFL analyst thinks that the Colts should strike.
Hopkins is 30-years old and is not getting any younger. He has missed games due to injury and suspension over the last few years. Still, Hopkins has game-changing talent and can be a quarterback's best friend.
Therefore, ESPN analyst Mina Kimes listed the Colts as one of the teams that should aggressively pursue the All-Pro pass catcher. Hopkins would provide Richardson and the Colts with a big-time target in the passing game.
A potential pairing of Pittman and Hopkins would open up the offense in a meaningful way for head coach Shane Steichen. Add in the dynamic talents of Richardson and Taylor, and the Colts would be appointment television.
Of course, Hopkins will have several teams interested in signing him. The Colts will have serious competition in adding him. Especially since Hopkins appears to be in a point in his career that he wants to play for a ready-made contender.
With that said, the Colts have an electrifying young signal caller and an exciting future to sell DeAndre Hopkins on. It's something that is certainly worth pursuing and forcing Hopkins to say no.
