Anthony Richardson is the franchise quarterback for the Indianapolis Colts. That much is clear after the team selected the Florida passer at No. 4 overall in the 2023 NFL Draft.

The selections officially signals a new era in Indianapolis. Especially with head coach Shane Steichen set for his first season at the helm. Richardson is an exciting quarterback that provides the Colts with a much-needed spark.

Indianapolis has been lacking a true franchise quarterback since Andrew Luck abruptly retired a few offseasons ago. The Colts have tried to fill the void with veteran journeymen. Finally, there is real hope at the position.

Richardson is the most athletic quarterback in the history of the NFL Scouting Combine. He pairs a big fame with a rocket arm and impressive running ability. All in all, his talent and upside is extremely exciting for the Colts.

Of course, the Colts' last two quarterbacks drafted in the first-round were Peyton Manning and Andrew Luck. Manning is a Hall-of-Famer, while Luck was a top talent prior to retirement. Richardson is ready to fill those shoes.

“I definitely take pride in it," Richardson said after being drafted. "You talked about Peyton (Manning), you talked about Andrew (Luck), you know, great QBs. Legends right there. For me to be picked as high as I was, it lets me know that Colts Nation believes in me."

Richardson appears to be walking into a good situation to maximize his talents. Starting with the scheme that Steichen will implement in Indianapolis. Fortunately, the first-round QB knows he will have to put the work in to succeed.

"I’m definitely going to put the work in, make sure I’m up there with those guys," said Richardson.
