The Indianapolis Colts officially have a new era to be excited about. Indianapolis has hitched its wagon to No. 4 overall selection Anthony Richardson, who enters the league with a ton of intrigue given his rare athletic profile.
It's not always an easy situation for a rookie quarterback to win over a locker room filled with veterans. That is one of the first big obstacles that a first-year signal caller must overcome in their career.
Fortunately for Richardson, it appears that he is already starting on a high note. That is because Colts All-Pro offensive lineman recently had some encouraging things to say about his quarterback.
Nelson was the Colts' first-round draft selection in 2018. He has blocked for a handful of quarterbacks in his career. Including one season for Andrew Luck, who retired ahead of the 2019 campaign.
Outside of Luck, its been a revolving door behind center for the Colts. That list includes Jacoby Brissett, Philip Rivers, Brian Hoyer, Carson Wentz, Matt Ryan, and Sam Ehlinger. Therefore, it's no surprise that Nelson is excited about Richardson.
"What he can do on the field is pretty extraordinary," Nelson told the media about the team's first-round selection.
Extraordinary is certainly an accurate adjective of Richardson's game. He can push the ball down the field as well as anybody, and he is a threat to score from just about anywhere on the field with his legs.
That unique combination will have the Colts as appointment television. Especially given how Shane Steichen was able to unlock Jalen Hurts with the Philadelphia Eagles.
Quenton Nelson seems to have confidence in his new quarterback, even before Richardson has a real chance to make an impression on his teammates. That is a good sing as a new era gets underway for the Indianapolis Colts.
