The Indianapolis Colts headed into the 2023 NFL Draft with a desperate need at quarterback. There was no secret that Indianapolis was going to take a signal caller with their first-round draft selection.

Chris Ballard and Shane Steichen were linked to the top group of quarterbacks throughout the pre-draft process. There was even some though that the franchise could move up in the order to secure their preferred choice.

In the end, the Colts stayed put at No. 4 and selected Florida quarterback Anthony Richardson to be the next face of the franchise. Richardson is a polarizing prospect that has the ceiling of a home run pick if everything clicks.

Richardson is one of the most athletically gifted prospects in the history of the NFL Draft. That is one of the primary reasons that made him an intriguing target for the teams selecting at the top of the order.

Indianapolis is getting a quarterback with attractive potential. Richardson is a big-armed signal caller that looks to be an excellent fit for Shane Steichen. At Florida, he displayed intriguing upside that has officially made him a top-5 in the draft.

The Colts are banking on getting the most out of Richardson on the next level. He only started 22 games over three years on the collegiate level. But his upside and raw ability is exciting as he transitions to the professional game.

Now, the focus shifts on making sure that Richardson succeeds in Indianapolis. It's been too long since the Colts had the guy behind center. Therefore, coaching to Richardson's strengths and surrounding him with adequate talent is paramount.

Indianapolis has seven more draft picks this weekend. It would make sense for the Colts to use a couple of those picks on wide receiver and offensive line. There should be talent to be had at both positions in rounds two and three.

The Colts officially have a new era with Shane Steichen at the helm and Anthony Richardson behind center. Excitement is high as fans await to see what the duo can do together in blue.
