Colts need to make major move after showing their cards

The Indianapolis Colts must land a franchise quarterback this offseason. There is no getting around that fact. Especially for general manager Chris Ballard, whose seat is not getting any cooler.
In most drafts, the Colts would probably find that easy while sitting with the No. 4 overall selection. Not in this draft, though. Not with multiple quarterback-needy teams drafting before the Colts.
Therefore, a move up is almost required at this point. Even more so after the Colts practically showed their cards to the NFL at a recent pro day. The secret is now out on what Indianapolis is wanting to do.
Indianapolis sent one of the most important members of their front office to watch and meet with Florida quarterback Anthony Richardson at pro day: Chief Personnel Executive Morocco Brown. On the surface, that probably isn't the biggest deal.
Richardson is one of the top quarterback prospects in the draft. So, it makes sense for Indianapolis to do their due diligence with their need at the position. However, when you examine it deeper, things get more interesting.
Brown is a valuable member of the Colts' front office and has a strong voice in draft decisions. When he is at a pro day, it is worth taking notice and paying attention. Especially when it's for a quarterback.
However, Brown being at Richardson's pro day – and not at any other of the top quarterback prospect's – sends a loud message that the Colts know who they are targeting at No. 4. Which means a move up all but has to be made.
Indianapolis cannot afford to stay put at their draft selection and risk another team leapfrogging them. Reports have already surfaced that indicate such a scenario is a real possibility if Richardson is on the board after the first two picks.
The Indianapolis Colts have shown their hand to the rest of the league. Now, it's time to make a big move.
