There is no doubt that Indianapolis Colts rookie quarterback Anthony Richardson will enter the NFL with high expectations. After being selected inside the top-five of the 2023 NFL Draft, that is to be expected.
Richardson is already being projected to be one of the league's most dangerous rushers when the regular season begins – and he hasn't even been named the starter yet. Fortunately, the pressure isn't getting to the rookie just yet.
Instead, he is focused on improving his craft before he takes his first professional snaps. He seems to be fully bought into what head coach Shane Steichen is coaching him, and Richardson's recent comments back that up.
“I’ll be getting with the receivers, getting with Gardner (Minshew)," Richardson said. "Trying to get in the building here so I can constantly learn information and build chemistry."
Richardson made sure to not only mention that he will be getting in work with his pass catchers, but he also singled out Gardner Minshew, who he is in a position battle with. He wants everybody to be working to improve.
"The season is right around the corner. It’s coming up fast,” Richardson explained about why he is working so hard in preparation for when games kick off. “(I’m) trying to get better, master my craft.”
That level of work ethic and overall leadership will pay off when the lights are on and the score matters. Richardson has wasted little time and hitting the ground running with his new team.
Richardson is only a rookie but it is clear that he has the competitive fire that should inspire his teammates. Those recent comments will surely have the fan base fired up and excited for his debut season.
Experts think Colts HC will immediately one up Jalen Hurts
