There is a lot of excitement surrounding the incoming talent for the Indianapolis Colts ahead of the 2023 NFL season. Especially with the franchise entering a new era under head coach Shane Steichen.
But the team will be counting on the veterans on the roster to have a successful season in the fall. That is certainly true up front along the offensive line. Indianapolis must win the line of scrimmage with a rookie quarterback behind center.
Fortunately, there is a very good development regarding one key offensive lineman. Left tackle Bernhard Raimann revealed this week that he has gained 15 pounds since last offseason ended, and he's feeling great.
Raimann was drafted by the Colts in the third-round of the 2022 NFL Draft. Then, he was thrusted into a difficult situation as a rookie: playing offensive tackle for a team that had a coaching change midseason and multiple quarterback starting.
He played in 16 games during his first season in the NFL. Raimann started in 11 contests and figures to be a key part of the offense moving forward. Therefore, this development is pretty noteworthy as a new staff takes over in Indianapolis.
At left tackle, Raimann will be tasked with protecting Anthony Richardson's blindside. However, Steichen loves to run the football. And that should be the case with Jonathan Taylor in the backfield.
So, adding the weight should only help Raimann in run blocking during his second season on the professional level. Indianapolis will likely look to play some ball control and allow the duo of Richardson and Taylor to do work on the ground.
This is a positive sign early on in the Shane Steichen era. Bernhard Raimann appears to already be bought into what the new regime is asking of the players before OTAs even begin.
