The NFL has announced this year's Pro Bowl rosters. And it only included one player from the Indianapolis Colts.
That player being LG Quenton Nelson and one player from the Colts was egregiously snubbed if you ask me.
Along with Nelson being announced as a Pro Bowler (and starter), the Colts also had four alternates named with LB Zaire Franklin, center Ryan Kelly, WR Michael Pittman Jr., and DT DeForest Buckner.
Zaire Franklin:
The NFL's total tackle leader, Zaire Franklin, was left off this year's Pro Bowl list. Franklin has 170 tackles on the year, which leads the NFL. He also has done this in only 15 games played; he has 25 more tackles than any other player to play only 15 games this season. Only two inside LBs were named to the Pro Bowl from the AFC, both coming from the Baltimore Ravens in, Roquan Smith and Patrick Queen.
I believe it's time we see a distinction between pass-rushing LBs and inside LBs. Combining them for the voting process leads to pass rushers dominating the position. There isn't a stat that is more flashy on the defensive side of the ball to fans than sacks. This gives pass rushers a clear advantage when they are being labeled as LBs. It's 2023, no matter if a team runs a 3-4 or a 4-3 defense, it's time that pass rushers were grouped together as "edge rushers" and let inside LBs have their own position and give deserving players their flowers.
And I know many of you reading are probably saying, "Destin, why do you care so much the Pro Bowl is a joke." I'd agree with that sentiment, but sadly, the Pro Bowl is still an important thing used during contract negotiations and bonus structures. This makes the current process truly criminal, as it's stealing money from players who earned the accolade.
