The Indianapolis Colts have one big priority moving forward to ensure short-term and long-term success. That would be building around and surrounding rookie first-round quarterback Anthony Richardson with talent.
As good as Richardson has flashed that he can be, the Colts cannot expect him to carry the load right out of the gate. Fortunately, Indianapolis does have legit weapons in running back Jonathan Taylor and wide receiver Michael Pittman.
But that should not stop general manager Chris Ballard or head coach Shane Steichen from wanting to continue looking for roster upgrades or additions. Therefore, Indianapolis worked out and is looking into signing former first-round wideout Breshad Perriman.
ESPN NFL insider Adam Schefter reported the news on Friday afternoon. Schefter added that Indianapolis is in discussions with the veteran pass catcher on a potential deal.
Perriman, 29, has played seven seasons in the NFL. He began his career with the Baltimore Ravens after being selected in the first-round of the 2015 draft out of UCF. Most recently, he spent the past two seasons with the Tampa Bay Buccaneers.
For Indianapolis, Perriman would be the latest receiver addition to the roster since Steichen was hired. The Colts inked former Buffalo Bills wideout Isaiah McKenzie in free agency and drafted Joshua Downs in the third-round.
If nothing else, such a signing would provide more depth and competition for the Colts as players battle it out for roster spots under a first-year staff. Perriman has hauled in 2,343 yards and 16 touchdowns during his career.
