Colts could look to pair college teammates through NFL Draft
It would fill multiple key needs.
The Indianapolis Colts have been linked to each of the top quarterback prospects in the 2023 NFL Draft class. But with the No. 4 overall selection, there's no guarantee who will still be on the board for the franchise to take.
It is clear that the Colts must come away with a franchise signal caller, however. Among the names that will be in contention to be the pick is Ohio State passer CJ Stroud.
Stroud is known for his confidence and poise behind center. He threw for 8,123 yards and 85 touchdowns to just 12 interceptions during two seasons as the starter for the Buckeyes. His big-game experience is attractive, too.
Therefore, it makes sense for Stroud to be a real candidate for the Colts. In fact, he is the quarterback that many Colts fans have been vocal about wanting.
That was the case inside Lucas Oil Stadium at the NFL Scouting Combine as Stroud threw passes and worked out in the home of the Colts. Fans were not shy about expressing their interest in the former Big Ten QB.
Additionally, Stroud is not the only Ohio State product that the Colts are expressing some level of interest in. Indianapolis scheduled a meeting with another former member of the Buckeyes.
Offensive tackle Dawand Jones will have a pre-draft meeting with the Colts and a handful of other franchises as the NFL Draft inches closer. Jones is a massive lineman at 6-8 and 374 pounds.
With the need in the trenches for the Colts, Jones makes sense. He did not give up a sack from his right tackle position last season, moves well for his gigantic size, and obviously has experience protecting Stroud.
There is a real possibility where the Indianapolis Colts pair the two college teammates together through the draft. Stroud in the top-5 and Jones early in the second-round would fill significant roster needs.
