With the new league year kicking off for the NFL on Wednesday, that means this year's rule change proposals have been submitted.
Four rule changes were submitted, one of which came from the Indianapolis Colts.
The Colts submitted the following rule change:
"Amends Rule 15, Section 3, to permit a coach or replay official (inside of two minutes) to challenge any foul that has been called"
Many have complained for a while now that all penalties should be reviewable. One reason that won't ever happen is the league's attempts to keep games from running too long and to keep the quality of the product as high as possible. But the Colts choosing to say under two minutes seems like a discussion can at least be had.
This one coming from the Colts shouldn't surprise fans due to a particular game result this past season. The Colts lost their Week 7 matchup to the Cleveland Browns by a score of 39-38 after multiple controversial calls by officials negated a Colts game-winning forced fumble and gave the Browns an extra attempt at the end zone.
If this rule is successfully passed, it will help other teams to avoid falling to the same result that the Colts suffered last season. In which they truly believed a win was stolen from them by the officials. And with them ending the season one game out of the playoffs, I'd say it came back to haunt them.
