Colts could be getting the long awaited debut of a young player whose had an injury sideline him all season
The Colts defense could be getting a boost with Jaylon Carlies trending towards coming off the IR ahead of Sundays game.
The Indianapolis Colts’ defense will be severely undermanned heading into their Week 14 matchup with the Jacksonville Jaguars. They will be without arguably their top two defenders in DeForest Buckner and Sauce Gardner. Buckner is still having to miss at least one more game on the IR, and Gardner is nursing a calf injury.
There could be some good news coming, though, as second-year LB Jaylon Carlies again was able to put up a full week of practice. He remains on the IR, but all signs are pointing towards him finally making his season debut this week.
Colts second-year LB Jaylon Carlies looks primed to make his season debut against the Jaguars in Week 14

Carlies has been sidelined all season as he works to recover from an ankle injury that landed him on the IR. For a second consecutive week, Carlies has put together a full week of practice, though which seems to suggest he will be activated ahead of Sunday’s game.
The fact that the Colts have chosen to leave the roster spot opened by waiving kicker Michael Badgley seems pretty telling. Carlies may not be an immediate starter for the Colts, but he would add needed depth at LB. He would also be a massive upgrade over either current starter in terms of coverage, which could help him see the field on third downs.
Even though Carlies was only a fifth-round pick, he made a big impact when he was on the field last season. He not only looked like the best coverage LB on the Colts, but was testing out as one of the top in the league. So he could be quite the chess piece for defensive coordinator Lou Anarumo in this Sunday’s game, but also for the remainder of the season.
