You never like to see a cart brought out after a player goes down with an injury. That was the case for the Indianapolis Colts on Tuesday, though, when they saw a young defender taken off the field on a cart after suffering an injury during a training camp practice.

Colts CB Jaylon Jones suffers a hamstring injury in practice

On Tuesday, CB Jaylon Jones went down with an injury that many were saying involved his lower leg. The cart coming out made this scary, of course, but it was also non-contact during one-on-ones, which added to it. The Colts drafted Jaylon Jones in the seventh round of the 2023 NFL Draft, and he quickly exceeded the expectations that come with that draft slot.

He not only made the roster but appeared in all 17 games and logged 10 starts during his rookie season, and took another step forward last year by being a full-time starter. So seeing him go down with what had the look of a season ending injury would have massively hurt the Colts. Thankfully, the news after practice makes it seem like he avoided that fate, but still had something that will be monitored going forward.

Jones and Juju Brents are now both dealing with hamstring injuries, which, according to history, can linger if not properly addressed early. Jones and Brents are two of the three players battling for the final starting CB job, along with rookie Justin Walley, who has had an impressive start to camp.

Hopefully, this injury doesn’t force Jones or Brents to miss significant time. Some are already starting to think Walley could be the favorite to win the job, and if he can continue to impress without the other two in the competition on the sideline, he could start to pull away. Jones has defied the odds from the moment he was drafted, and he is certainly not someone I would bet against. Right now, the Colts can at least be thankful in the fact that Jones’ injury is not as bad as it could have been.
