It would make sense for the Indianapolis Colts to be in the midst of a rebuilding stage. The franchise has a first-year head coach in Shane Steichen and will be more than likely starting a rookie quarterback in the fall.

Therefore, it will likely take some time for Indianapolis to get into a groove and stack up wins. Don't tell star defensive tackle DeForest Buckner that, though.

Buckner wants nothing to do with a rebuild. Even after the Colts traded away start corner Stephon Gilmore. He made that very clear with his recent comments to the Indy Star.

"I hate that word," Buckner said of "rebuild" to the Indy Star via NFL.com.

Buckner referenced his time with the San Francisco 49ers as to why he does not like the term. San Francisco won just two games before bringing Kyle Shanahan on board. The culture improved from there.

"My rookie year in San Francisco, we went 2-14, the coach got fired, we brought in Kyle (Shanahan) and the majority of the roster was gone," Buckner said. "Brought in new guys, and it took a couple of years. … We were building a team, a culture and all of that, but I was a young player, so I was able to grind through those tough years."

Now an established veteran in the league, Buckner is wanting to be a part of another rebuild phase. Instead, the one-time All-Pro selection wants to help the Colts win.

"As you get older, rebuild is definitely not a word you want to hear," said Buckner.

Buckner is certainly the type of player that can be the difference in winning and losing games. He's one of the premier defensive linemen in all of the NFL, after all.

Perhaps the Indianapolis Colts are just a quarterback away from turning things around. Buckner obviously hopes that is the case with the team all but set to add a rookie to the position later this month.
