Colts have scheduled a formal meeting with Boise State running back and Heisman runner-up Ashton Jeanty ahead of the 2025 NFL Draft
No one saw this coming
The Indianapolis Colts have multiple needs they could address in the first round at pick 14.
One of the few you probably haven't seen mocked to them at that spot, though, is running back. But that didn't stop them from taking the time to have a formal meeting with the consensus number one RB in the class at the 2025 NFL Scouting Combine.
Colts scheduled to have a formal meeting with top RB in the 2025 NFL Draft at the Scouting Combine
Boise State's Ashton Jeanty was nothing short of extraordinary in 2024. He led the FBS with 2,601 yards on 374 carries for an average of six yards per rush. He also led the Moutain West with 29 rushing touchdowns. There is no denying how special of a player Jeanty can be at the next level if he lands in the right situation. It does seem pretty shocking, though, that the Colts would be a team taking the time to have this meeting.
Many believe Jeanty is the far and away best RB in the 2025 NFL Draft class. Therefore, if the Colts had any chance of landing Jeanty, it would have to be with their first-round pick at pick 14. Taking an RB in the first round in itself raises eyebrows for many around the league. It would do even more than that if the Colts were the team to do it.
The Colts already have a star RB on the roster, Jonathan Taylor, who is coming off a strong year where he rushed for 1,431 yards and 11 touchdowns on 303 carries. He had the fourth most rushing yards in the NFL, and he did it by only appearing in 14 games and only playing 13 complete games. Drafting Jeanty with Taylor already on the roster and playing on a decently large contract would be a wild decision by the Colts. Some may point to the fact that the Colts drafted Taylor in the second round after Marlon Mack had a 1,000-yard season as a reason this wouldn't be a shocking move. Moving on from a decent RB isn't the same as drafting a replacement for a star RB who is only 26 years old.
The Colts have the chance to steal a key defensive back away from an AFC South rival without even having to break the bank
The Indianapolis Colts brought Julian Blackmon back late into free agency last offseason. He is set to hit the open market again, and many believe his time with the Colts ends this time. If he does sign elsewhere, the Colts will need to find a new starting free safety this offseason. There are multiple solid […]
