During the crazy Indianapolis Colts season that was 2022, everyone remembers Frank Reich being fired and him being replaced with Jeff Saturday.
But before Reich's tenure came to an end, one offensive coach was fired as Reich was doing everything he could to keep his job; that coach was Marcus Brady.
Since his firing, Brady joined the Philadelphia Eagles as a "Senior Offensive Assistant Coach" for this past season. And now Chicago Bears head coach Matt Eberflus, who was the Colts' defensive coordinator from 2018 to 2021, has requested to interview Brady for the offensive coordinator position for the Chicago Bears.
When the Colts fired Brady, many suspected that this was a last-ditch effort by Reich to keep his job. Some would even say that the 2022 coaching staff used Brady as a scapegoat.
Brady joined the Colts in 2018 as their assistant quarterback coach, his first job in the NFL. He would quickly climb the ranks on the Colts staff as he was named the QB's coach in 2019 and was named their offensive coordinator in 2021. Before the NFL, Brady spent nine years coaching in the Canadian Football League, better known as the CFL. He was the offensive coordinator with the Toronto Argonauts from 2013 to 2017, and the wide receivers coach with the Montreal Alouettes from 2009 to 2011 before being promoted to their offensive coordinator in 2012.
This would be an interesting hire by the Eberflus and the Bears, who you assume are desperate to get this hire correct after firing Luke Getsy this offseason. Brady has no experience being an NFL team's lead offensive mind and play-caller. If hired by the Bears, this would be his first opportunity. And with Eberflus' job on the line, does he really want to rely on a first-time NFL playcaller? I guess we will have to wait and see.
