The 2023 NFL season has reached its finale, with Super Bowl LVIII set to be played today at 6:30 PM EST.
The Kansas City Chiefs are taking on the San Francisco 49ers to crown this year's champion.
And while the Colts don't have any hand in this year's game, they do have three former players hoping their team emerges victorious.
George Odum:
Safety George Odum is the first and most notable former Colts player suiting up for the Super Bowl. Odum signed with the Colts as a first-team All-Pro special teamer after he led the NFL in special teams tackles. Odum spent his first four years in the NFL with the Colts before signing with the 49ers in 2022 and has been there the past two seasons. Due to an injury, he has been forced to miss the team's playoff run but has been activated just in time to play in his first-ever Super Bowl.
Matt Pryor:
The second former Colts player is offensive lineman Matt Pryor, who also came from the 49ers. Pryor spent two years with the Colts after being traded to Indianapois before the 2021 season began. He played tackle and guard with the Colts and began the 2022 season as the team's starting left tackle. This is his first year with the 49ers, and while he hasn't started a game for them, he was active for 15 of their 17 regular-season games.
T.Y. McGill:
T.Y. McGill started his NFL career with the Colts in 2015 as an undrafted free agent. He spent two years with the team before signing with the Cleveland Browns in 2015. This is his 2nd year with the 49ers, and he appeared in two games this year. But he got the good news yesterday that he has been elevated to the active roster for the Super Bowl and will be dressed on the sideline for the big game.
So, if you are hoping a former Colts player gets a ring, you will be hoping for a 49ers win. The Chiefs do not have any former Colts players on their roster, while both teams also have other players with ties to the state of Indiana. Some of those are:
- George Karlaftis – West Lafayette High School/Purdue (Cheifs)
- Drue Tranquill – Carroll High School/Notre Dame (Chiefs)
- Cam Jones – Indiana (Chiefs)
- Randy Gregory – Hamilton Southeastern High School (49ers)
