The 2024 NFL offseason is about to pick up in a massive way.
The NFL's legal tampering period is set to begin Monday, March 11th at 12 p.m. Eastern Standard Time, or what I like to call the opening day of free agency. With that just days away, our staff at A to Z Sports decided to predict the landing spot for many of the top free agents.
On the defensive side of the ball, the Colts were predicted to sign star New York Giants safety Xavier McKinney. The Colts have a clear need at free safety, and they picked the right year to fill that need. With this year's free agency class at safety being as deep as we've ever seen it.
Notable 2024 Free Agent Safeties
- Xavier McKinney, New York Giants
- Justin Simmons, Denver Broncos
- Kamren Curl, Washington Commanders
- Geno Stone, Baltimore Ravens
- Quandre Diggs, Seattle Seahawks
- Darnell Savage, Green Bay Packers
- Jeremey Chinn, Carolina Panthers
- Julian Blackmon, Indianapolis Colts

The Colts being predicted to sign McKinney from this group makes a lot of sense. I think FS is likely the top position the Colts will target in free agency this offseason. McKinney is only 24 years old and coming off a great season in 2023, where he had three interceptions and a career-high 11 pass deflections. He had the second-most total tackles on the Giants with 116.
McKinney would start for the Colts at FS immediately and is a player-defensive coordinator Gus Bradley could trust in single-high formations. A formation the Colts utilize more than most teams in the NFL today. And a big reason why they could swing by at the position even when the rest of the league seems to be moving with the thought that the safety market isn't worth spending big on.
