Colts kicked while they are already down before their Week 16 Monday Night Football matchup with the 49ers even kicks off
The Colts get zero help from the rest of the NFL in Week 16, which puts even more pressure on themselves going forward.
The Indianapolis Colts have yet to take the field for their Week 16 game as they are set to host the San Francisco 49ers for Monday Night Football. Even before the results of their own game, though, it already feels like they have suffered a significant loss.
There were multiple games this week that, if a particular result had occurred, it could have drastically improved the team’s chances of making the postseason. Every single one of them didn’t happen, and that’s been a very interesting trend to monitor since the teams’ Week 11 bye.
Colts’ playoff hopes get no help from the rest of the league in Week 16
Entering Week 16, the Colts’ odds of winning the AFC South or earning a wildcard spot were slim. Their only realistic path to the postseason is to win out and let everything else play out as it may. In Week 16, nothing has played out in a favorable way for the Colts, making it even more imperative that they win their final three games.
The Colts had to sit and watch as the top two teams in the AFC South, the Jacksonville Jaguars and Houston Texans, won their games. They also saw other teams fighting for wildcard spots win their games, such as the Los Angeles Chargers and the Buffalo Bills. The Colts entered Week 16 as the eighth seed in the AFC, and even if they get a win over the 49ers, they will remain there when the week ends.
This bad luck isn’t something new to the Colts, though. Since their Week 11 bye, there have been 16 games involving the Colts and their direct competition for playoff spots, currently the Jaguars, Texans, and Chargers. Every single one of them has resulted in a way that hurts the Colts. An impressive 0-16 going in the Colts’ favor is a wild stat that perfectly represents how things have gone for Indianapolis down the stretch.
