The 2025 NFL Senior Bowl kicked off Tuesday morning, and many of the Indianapolis Colts' top staff members are in attendance.
Some that I spotted on the practice field include head coach Shane Steichen and assistant general manager Ed Dodds. They got to watch on as multiple NFL Draft prospects stole the show, but another Colts staff member had the best seat in the house to watch, in my opinion, the biggest winner from Day one of the Senior Bowl.
Colts TE coach is working with Senior Bowl standout and Miami TE Elijah Arroyo
Miami tight end Elijah Arroyo was the star of day one of the Senior Bowl. He made highlight-reel plays during one-on-ones, as well as team drills. The most impressive element of his game was his route-running ability. He gave opposing defensive backs fits in one-on-ones and, as a result, got quite the reaction from the crowd at multiple points during practice.
Arroyo is coming off his far and away best collegiate season, with him recording 35 receptions for 590 yards and seven touchdowns. His ability as a pass catcher at the TE position is certainly intriguing for a team like the Colts, which had nearly no impact from the position in 2024. Even after a strong season, his previous three years of little to no production at Miami have caused people to have some warranted concerns about his game translating to the pro level. During his first three seasons, he combined for only 11 catches for 163 yards and one touchdown. So, him showing out today against some solid NFL draft defensive back prospects is a big deal.
This week at the Senior Bowl, the National team tight ends are being coached by Colts assistant offensive line coach Chris Watt. In this group, Watt is getting to work with Arroyo and Bowling Green's Harold Fannin Jr., and with the Colts having a major need at TE this offseason, I'm sure this is a welcomed advantage for the Colts staff. Watt already got to see Arroyo tear it up on day one, now we will have to wait and see if the next two days have a similar result. Because if he does, I'm sure Watt will be able to bring back a glowing review of the player he got to coach this week. And who knows, maybe that could lead the Colts to target the Miami TE in the upcoming NFL Draft.
