The Indianapolis Colts have poached a coach from a divisional rival to complete their coaching staff for 2024.

The Athletics's Colts reporter James Boyd shared that the Colts have hired Tennesee Titans defensive quality control coach Justin Hamilton.

Justin Hamilton's History in Football:

Hamilton comes to the Colts after one season with the Titans as a defensive quality control coach. Before joining the Titans, Hamilton spent the previous four seasons at his alma mater, Virginia Tech.

Hamilton began his college football career as a WR at Virginia Tech, where he spent his first two seasons and totaled 28 catches for 338 yards and one touchdown. In his junior year, he switched to RB, where he logged 75 carries for 336 yards and three touchdowns. During his senior season, he again switched his position, this time to the defense side of the ball as a defensive back, and he ended the year with three interceptions. His unique playing career resulted in him being drafted by the Cleveland Browns with the 222nd pick in the seventh round of the 2006 NFL Draft as a RB. Before the season, he would have his position changed to safety with the Browns, and he appeared in ten games during his rookie season. His next time on an active NFL roster would be in 2008 with the Washington Redskins.

He joined the Virginia Tech Hokies in 2018 as the program's director of player development on the defensive side of the ball. He joined the team's coaching staff in 2019 as the school's safeties coach, and in 2020, he was promoted to defensive coordinator 2020. He remained the Hokies' defensive coordinator for two seasons, but in 2022, they hired Brent Pry as the head coach, and Hamilton wasn't retained. After taking a year off, he made the jump to the NFL and decided to announce it with a bit of college football humor.

Hamilton's last responsibility as a Titans employee should interest fans. He was named defensive backs coach for the American team at the 2024 Senior Bowl, where he worked with corner and safety prospects in the 2024 NFL Draft. Some intriguing names were included in that group, such as Missouri's Kris Abrams-Drane, Louisville's Jarvis Brownlee Jr., Miami's Kamren Kinchens, and Georgia's Javon Bullard.
