The Indianapolis Colts are preparing for their Week 7 matchup with the Los Angeles Chargers, including moving on from a Week 1 starter. The Colts are off to a strong start this season with an NFL-best 5-1 record through six weeks. It’s not all been great for the Colts, though one position in particular where it’s been a struggle for Indianapolis has been LB. Joe Bachie started the first five games of the season next to Zaire Franklin and struggled severely throughout. He was placed on the IR for a foot injury, and now the team has decided to make a more permanent move involving Bachie.

The Colts have waived Bachie from the IR. He is now subject to the NFL’s waiver wire, and if he clears, he will become a free agent. Bachie was a training camp star for the Colts this offseason. He was signed late into free agency after being a key special teamer for the Bengals, where Lou Anarumo was his defensive coordinator. He got the chance to compete for a starting job in Indy and made the most of his opportunity. He displayed great coverage ability in training camp, joint practices, and the preseason. And ultimately was named the Week 1 starter.

However, once the lights got brighter in the regular season, Bachie’s training camp magic faded quickly. He was a liability on the field against the pass and the run. Even before his injury, the team tried just about every healthy LB on their roster during games to find a solution at the spot. After Bachie’s injury, the team signed former Bengals LB Germaine Pratt, who had a solid day in his Colts debut in their win vs. the Cardinals. He led the team in total tackles and instantly looked like a better fit than Bachie and other LBs on the roster. And it seems the Colts decided it was time to move on from Bachie altogether and move forward with the healthy options still on the roster.
