The Indianapolis Colts weren't able to avoid the sweep by the Houston Texans, as they lost for the second time this season in Week 8. However, because the Texans lost during Thursday Night Football, they have the chance to make up some ground during their Week 9 matchup with the Minnesota Vikings.

They will, however, have to do it without a key starter, with the news of the Colts ruling starting left tackle Bernhard Raimann out for Week 9.

On Monday, the Colts announced that starting LT Bernhard Raimann was dealing with a concussion after symptoms appeared after their loss to the Texans. As a result, he couldn't return to practice this week, so he couldn't clear the NFL's concussion protocol ahead of this game.

With Raimann out, the Colts will turn to their 2024 third-round pick, Matt Goncalves, to man the job. This will be Goncalves' first NFL start, and he will be doing it at LT as opposed to RT, where he played the majority of his college snaps. He will given the responsibility of blocking for veteran Joe Flacco's blindside after the team elected to bench Anthony Richardson earlier this week. So, the offense will look very different this week for the Colts, but this is a massive opportunity for Goncalves to show the team he should be in the running to potentially start as a future guard or tackle with RG Will Fries (injured) set to become a free agent this offseason and RT Braden Smith set to become a free agent after the 2025 season.
