Colts one of multiple teams interested in a former NFL draft pick looking to find another chance to make it in the big leagues

The Indianapolis Colts are off to a hot start in 2025 with an impressive 4-1 record. Not everything has been perfect for the team, though. One position of weakness has been their second starting outside CB spot. The started with Xavien Howard in the role, whom they signed during training camp, but he struggled tremendously through the first four weeks.
Ultimately, he decided to retire ahead of the team’s Week 5 win over the Las Vegas Raiders. And now, according to Aaron Wilson, the Colts are one of multiple teams interested in former New York Giants CB Tre Hawkins.
Colts reportedly have interest in former Giants CB Tre Hawkins

The Giants selected Hawkins in the sixth round of the 2023 NFL Draft out of Old Dominion. He spent two years with the team, appearing in 20 games and logging four starts. In New York, he recorded one interception, three pass deflections, and 45 total tackles. His production on the field isn’t likely what has multiple teams interested in him now as a free agent, though.
Hawkins has solid size for a CB, coming in just under 6-2 and was most recently weighed in at 195. He also has elite athleticism for a CB due to his testing during his draft cycle. He ran a 4.42 40-yard dash and recorded a 10-9 broad jump.
On paper, he looks like the type of CB Colts defensive coordinator Lou Anarumo typically covets. If the Colts sign Hawkins, I would assume he would be a practice squad signing to start and would have the chance to show in practice that he should be elevated to the 53-man roster eventually.
