It's been an eventful few days for the Indianapolis Colts during the 2023 NFL Draft. General manager Chris Ballard and head coach Shane Steichen have been hard at work building the roster with rookie talent.
Indianapolis held nine draft picks on Saturday, so there was hardly any break for the front office during the final day of draft weekend. The Colts concluded the last round with three selections.
First, the Colts drafted Wagner linebacker Titus Leo. Leo is an athletic linebacker that spent five seasons on the collegiate level. Interestingly, he actually began his career as a wide receiver before transitioning over to the defensive side of the ball.
Then, the Colts followed that up by sticking on defense. With their second selection of the seventh-round, Indianapolis grabbed Texas A&M defensive back Jaylon Jones. Jones is as high of an upside pick that a team can get this late in the draft
He was considered a five-star recruit coming out of high school. Jones started three seasons in the SEC West. Furthermore, his 6-2, 200-pound frame and physical style of play gives him some positional flex between corner and safety.
The Colts paid extra attention to the defensive backfield throughout the draft. Aside from Jones, Indianapolis also selected corner Julius Brents (second-round), corner Darius Rush (fifth-round), and safety Daniel Scott (fifth-round).
Finally, Indianapolis put a bow on the draft by selecting Northern Michigan offensive tackle Jake Witt. Following the theme of the draft, Witt is yet another athletic prospect. He actually began his career at tight end.
The 2023 NFL Draft is now in the rearview mirror for the Indianapolis Colts. With 12 selections made, the stakes will be at an all-time high as each prospect will be battling to make the 53-man roster when the season kicks off.
