Indianapolis Colts running back Jonathan Taylor is preparing for a big offseason in his career. The 2019 second-round NFL draft selection is eligible for a contract extension, and Taylor is looking to capitalize.
It was reported last week that Taylor would be changing agents in advance of potential contract negotiations. On Wednesday, reports revealed which agency that the All-Pro running back has signed with.
Taylor will be represented by First Round Management while working with agents Malki Kawa and Ethan Lock, according to NFL insider Ian Rapoport. Interestingly enough, Taylor will be sharing agents with teammate Shaq Leonard.
Taylor is coming off a season in which he posted career-lows in games played, rushing yards gained, and touchdowns scored. It was a forgettable year for Taylor and the Colts. Injuries and a coaching change played a big role.
Now, Taylor is looking to bounce back. There is new life inside the Indianapolis Colts' organization. Shane Steichen represents a fresh start at head coach, and Anthony Richardson provides excitement at quarterback.
In the meantime, Taylor is gearing up for contract talks that could reset the running back market. When healthy in 2021, Taylor led the league in rushing and was the top player at his position. He's still considered one of the elite talents in the NFL.
Furthermore, Pro Football Focus is projecting the Colts to reward their homegrown star. PFF makes the prediction that Taylor will "get the running back market moving again" after inking an extension this offseason.
The debate of paying a running back big money continues to heat up. And that will be something that Indianapolis will have to consider. However, Taylor is taking care of his side of things in hopes of signing a long-term deal.
