The Indianapolis Colts had to play their Week 13 matchup against the Tennessee Titans without star RB Jonathan Taylor.

NFL Network's Ian Rapoport broke the news before kickoff today that the Colts will be without Taylor for 3-5 weeks instead of the original 2-3 week timeline.

During the Colts Week 12 matchup against the Tampa Bay Buccaneers, Taylor injured his thumb without knowing it. The team didn't find the injury until the day after, and after evaluating the situation, he had surgery to repair his thumb.

The original timeline provided by the team was that Taylor would miss two to three weeks following the surgery. But before kickoff today, it was reported that the injury would take Taylor three to five weeks to return to the field.

I reached out to a team source to ask if the team will look at placing Taylor or IR after this new information has surfaced, and this is the answer I was given.

"We will continue to evaluate Jonathan and every injury that occurs and make the best decision for the player and the team."

While they wouldn't confirm it entirely, this told me that the Colts are at least considering placing the RB on IR, which would sideline him for at least another four weeks.

The Colts have had two injuries already this season that have not been placed on IR, and the player went on to miss four or more weeks. RT Braden Smith earlier this season, and CB Juju Brents has missed five straight weeks with a quad injury.

Injuries can be complex to get a read on at times, but it is troublesome to see how often the Colts haven't gotten a good read on their timelines. If the Colts are going to place Taylor on IR, expect a decision to come in the coming days.
