The key to the Colts offense getting the better of the Texans elite defense in Week 13
The Colts offense is going to need an assist from their defense if they want to take down the Texans elite defense in Week 13.
The Indianapolis Colts have been one of the best offenses in the NFL this season. Now they have to go up against arguably the top defenses in the league in Week 13..
The Houston Texans make you work extremely hard for every yard. If the Colts want to walk away with the win, they will need to find a way to get the better of this elite defense. In my opinion, I think the key to doing that actually comes from the other side of the ball.
The Colts defense is the key to how their offense can get the better of the Texans defense
Looking through the Texans’ schedule, you won’t see many outliers for their defense. They’ve been a dominant unit all year long. The team has held every team but two below 24 points this season, which is a problem for the Colts because they haven’t won a single game this year where they’ve scored fewer than 29 points.
The Colts’ defense is new and improved, though, so the hope is the team won’t need to put up a ton of points every week from now on to give themselves a chance. This week, the unit will face an offense that has struggled a lot this year, the Texans. CJ Stroud is returning from a concussion that held him out of the last three games, which could make him a bit rusty.
The Colts need to dominate the time of possession this week if they want to flip the script on the Texans. Indianapolis saw last week how being killed in the time of possession stat can sink your chances of winning. They need to put the Texans’ defense on the field often, hoping that they make mistakes due to pure exhaustion.
The pass defense is now built to do this very thing with Sauce Gardner and Charvarius Ward at CB. The area of concern that could hold them back is their run defense. The defense will need to get off the field, and if they are allowing Houston to gash them on the ground, that won’t happen. The goal will be to win early downs, which forces Stroud and the Texans to attack the strength of the Colts’ defense, their secondary.
