Something for the Colts to consider.

The Indianapolis Colts are in search of a franchise quarterback. Most assume that will be addressed in the 2023 NFL Draft.

While that may be the case, the Colts may have a better option to look into. That would be signing former MVP Lamar Jackson. Jackson, of course, is free to negotiate with other teams after the Baltimore Ravens placed the non-exclusive franchise tag on him earlier this week.

It would certainly take a lot for the Colts to add Jackson. But, it would more than likely be worth it.

The NFL recently provided some much-needed clarity on what teams would have to give the Ravens for Jackson. Which, of course, is a lot.

Baltimore can match any offer for the dynamic quarterback. And if they don't want to match it, then they would get two first-round picks in exchange. Obviously, that is tough for a franchise to sign off on.

For a franchise that is desperate to get the quarterback position right, it could make some sense. Especially due to how game-changing of a player that Jackson is. He would be able to fix a lot of the issues and give Shane Steichen a real threat behind center.

Unfortunately, the Colts must wait until March 15 to speak with Jackson about a potential deal. That is because the two-day negotiating period prior to the official start of free agency is only valid for unrestricted free agents.

Most seem to think that the Colts are going to get their quarterback through the draft. Be it Bryce Young, CJ Stroud, Will Levis, or Anthony Richardson with a top-5 selection.

While all four are intriguing players, the Indianapolis Colts would be wise to seriously consider making a deal for Lamar Jackson.
