The Indianapolis Colts cannot afford to be passive at the quarterback position. That strategy has not gotten the Colts anywhere since Andrew Luck retired and left the franchise without a franchise signal caller.
Indianapolis needs to get bold. Whether that means through the NFL Draft or another avenue. It is clear that something needs to be done behind center to change the recent fortunes of the team.
Former NFL general manager Michael Lombardi suggested that the Colts go out and make a bold move: acquire Lamar Jackson. That would certainly change some things in a major way for Indianapolis.
Lombardi was an NFL general manager for four different teams. In addition to that, he was on staff with the New England Patriots during Bill Belichick and Tom Brady, too.
He has credibility thanks to his time in the league. And he believes that the Colts should go out and add Jackson to its roster instead of waiting around and seeing what happens in the NFL Draft.
Lombardi explains that owner Jim Irsay and general manager Chris Ballard need to be looking at adding a blue chip player at the position this offseason. In part due to the fact that the Colts aren't sitting at the top of the draft and therefore won't have their pick of quarterback next month.
Jackson would cost a ton of money, but the Colts have the space to take on a hefty contract. Especially if it means adding an MVP at the most important position on the roster. It's worth the Colts giving the Baltimore Ravens two first-round picks.
The safe bet is for the Indianapolis Colts to add their next franchise signal caller through the draft. However, it's difficult to argue against going and getting Lamar Jackson being the better option.
