Lamar Jackson announced big news on Monday. He revealed that he requested a trade from the Baltimore Ravens earlier this month. Which obviously has some big implications.

For one, Jackson is still awaiting a new deal. The former MVP wants to get paid, and rightfully so. However, he and the Ravens have not been able to agree to an extension.

Therefore, the door is open for another team – like the Indianapolis Colts, for instance – to strike. Head coach Shane Steichen and general manager Chris Ballard addressed the topic as the team looks for their next franchise quarterback.

Steichen wouldn't directly address Jackson. However, he did admit that the Colts will continue to do their due diligence at quarterback leading up to the 2023 NFL Draft. That is where the Colts are expected to address the position.

"We do our due diligence on every position, whether it's the draft or free agency," Steichen said.  "But I've got no update for you on that one."

Jackson is a dynamic talent that would immediately provide the Indianapolis Colts with a big-time boost behind center. Given Steichen's work with Jalen Hurts with the Eagles, it would seemingly be a nice fit for both sides, too.

Ballard, like Steichen, did not exactly comment on Jackson. With that said, the general manager is aware of how special of a talent that Jackson is.

"Anytime a special player is available, which he is, you've got to do the word," said Ballard. "I'm not gonna get into deep discussions on where it's at or what we're doing or what we might do."

The Indianapolis Colts know how talented Lamar Jackson is. Now, it's time to figure out a way to add the 2019 NFL Most Valuable Player to the roster and finally solve the problems at quarterback.
