The Indianapolis Colts continue their search for a franchise quarterback. While that is expected to come through the draft, a different avenue just became more attractive for the Colts.
Lamar Jackson has revealed that he requested a trade from the Baltimore Ravens earlier this month. The one-time MVP quarterback was drafted by the Ravens in 2018, but he has yet to sign a contract extension.
"As of March 2nd, I requested a trade from the Ravens organization," Jackson tweeted out. "(The) Ravens (have) not been interested in meeting my value. Any and everyone that’s has met me or been around me know I love the game of football, and my dream is to help a team win the Super Bowl."
Baltimore placed the non-exclusive franchise tag on Jackson earlier this offseason. Which gives the quarterback the opportunity to negotiate with other teams. However, the Ravens have the opportunity to match any offer or receive two first-round picks as compensation.
The news of Jackson requesting a trade makes things more interesting, though. Jackson is making it known that he wants to be somewhere that he feels valued. And that's not with the Ravens.
Therefore, the door is open for the Indianapolis Colts to strike. The Colts cannot afford to be passive at the position, rather they must be aggressive to find their next signal caller.
Jackson is a game-changing talent at the most important position on the field. He would give the Colts something that they haven't had in years: a true franchise quarterback. Which would change everything in Indianapolis.
Ravens head coach still expects Jackson to be on his roster next season. However, it is evident that Jackson is looking to turn the chapter and play elsewhere.
The Indianapolis Colts should throw away their draft plans and instead complete a deal for Lamar Jackson. Such a move is now more possible than it ever has been.
