The Indianapolis Colts made a bit of a splash on the special teams unit during free agency. Former Los Angeles Rams kicker Matt Gay agreed to terms on a deal that no has him in the AFC South.

Gay inked a record-breaking deal with the Colts. A well-deserved pay day for one of the best and most consistent kickers in the entire league. Indianapolis should immediately see a difference as soon as the season starts.

But Gay will have Colts fans happy off the field, too. That is because he is set to wear jersey No. 2 for Indianapolis. Which puts an end to veteran signal callers wearing that number in the speed blue and gray.

Most recently, Matt Ryan wore the number before being benched midway through his one and only season with the team. Prior to that, the likes of Carson Wentz and Brian Hoyer wore it, too. None of which solved the issues behind center.

Fortunately, Gay is here to put an end to that. The next quarterback will have the opportunity to get out from whatever curse or bad juju that number was giving to the position.

Other notable numbers include quarterback Gardner Minshew wearing No.  10, wideout Isaiah McKenzie at No. 6, and Samson Ebukam getting No. 52. Those three were other important additions for Indianapolis this offseason.

Back to Gay, though. He provides new special teams coach Brian Mason with a reliable player at a key position. Gay earned Pro Bowl honors when the Rams won the Super Bowl. Additionally, he made 94 percent of his kicks during his last two seasons in LA.

There is a lot to like about the Matt Gay signing for the Indianapolis Colts. But his jersey number might be the biggest.
