Colts may have just revealed their plan for Philip Rivers with latest decision ahead of Week 15 matchup with the Seahawks
The Colts might have just tipped their hand at who will be their Week 15 starter vs. the Seahawks between Riley Leonard and Philip Rivers.
The Indianapolis Colts did the unthinkable by signing future Hall of Fame QB Philip Rivers to their practice squad on Tuesday. Signing him was just the first step; now the team must determine the health of presumptive starter Riley Leonard, who is recovering from a knee injury. Reportedly, if Leonard is healthy enough to play, he would be the starter. However, if he can’t, that’s when things become a bit cloudy in Indianapolis.
The team’s original plan for the week only included two practices with a walk-through on Wednesday. Following the signing of Rivers, though, the team altered its schedule. It now has practices scheduled for all three days, which seems to indicate that the Colts feel they need to see Rivers practice three times, rather than only twice. That reason just might be for the 44-year-old quarterback to start this Sunday against the Seattle Seahawks.
Colts altering their practice schedule could mean Philip Rivers will start vs. the Seahawks
The thought of Rivers starting against the Seahawks on Sunday truly seems ridiculous. He hasn’t played an NFL game since 2020, which was also with the Colts. Now, he could be going head-to-head with one of the best defenses in the NFL. The Seahawks haven’t allowed a touchdown in either of their last two games, and next up for them might be Rivers.
The Colts’ offense was already regressing before Jones’ injury, but after he went down, the group looked truly lifeless. Maybe Rivers’ fiery personality is precisely what they need to come back to life. They will need every single player to be on their A game if they are even going to have a shot against this Seahawks defense.
It has not yet been confirmed that Rivers will play in place of Leonard. However, changing their practice schedule is a telling sign that it is a real possibility. Rivers would have to either be signed or elevated to the active roster before that could be an option. Seeing who takes the first team snaps in practice between Rivers and Leonard will be important to watch this week.
