It's that time of year again when multiple outlets will begin to release their top 100 players in the NFL as the 2024 season approaches.

The Indianapolis Colts have multiple players that don't get the national coverage they should via their talent level. But they still have a two players who should be locks to make every top 100 list made, in my opinion: DeForest Buckner and Quenton Nelson.

But CBS' Pete Prisco's Top 100 didn't include a single Colts player.

Some arguments could be made for multiple Colts players to be a part of a top 100 NFL players list. Some that come to mind are RB Jonathan Taylor, WR Michael Pittman Jr., CB Kenny Moore II, C Ryan Kelly, LT Bernhard Raimann, and RT Braden Smith. All of those players have arguments that can be made, but leaving them out of the top 100 isn't some egregious take to me. But leaving off Buckner and Nelson, I don't see how anyone could have that thought process. But Prisco's disrespect of Buckner seems extra outrageous to me, with Prisco including ten DTs inside his top 100 over Buckner.

  • Chris Jones, Kansas City Cheifs #14
  • Dexter Lawerence, New York Giants #19
  • Quinnen Williams, New York Jets #29
  • Justin Maubuike, Baltimore Ravens #46
  • Derrick Brown, Carolina Panthers #59
  • Christian Barmore, New England Patriots #70
  • Christian Wilkins, Las Vegas Raiders #78
  • Alim McNeil, Detroit Lions #89
  • Jalen Carter, Philadelphia Eagles #93
  • Jeffery Simmons, Tennessee Titans #95

To add insult to injury, Prisco didn't even list Buckner in his honorable mention section following his rankings. This has me wondering if he truly just forgot about Buckner. I'm sorry, but I don't see a single argument that can be made for Buckner to be outside the top 10 DTs in the NFL. Honestly, using his list above, I'd have Buckner ranked third or fourth, with his ranking comparable to that of Quinnen Williams of the Jets.

Nelson returned to his elite self last season, where he looked dominant on the field. Unlike Buckner, Prisco at least mentioned Nelson in the honorable mention section of his rankings, and he only ranked four guards inside his top 100.

  • Chris Lindstrom, Atlanta Falcons #28
  • Joe Thuney, Kansas City Chiefs #86
  • Trey Smith, Kansas City Chiefs #90
  • Zack Martin, Dallas Cowboys #94

Having Nelson as the fifth-best guard in the league isn't an awful take by any means. I personally would rank him higher than a couple on the list above, but the fifth-best guard in the NFL is a more than fair ranking. I think Prisco made a mistake not including more guards in the NFL in his list, especially with some of the players making his top 100 above Nelson. Below are four players ranked in the top 100 that didn't include Nelson, which I see no argument for.

  • George Pickens, WR, Pittsburgh Steelers #68
  • Trey McBride, TE, Arizona Cardinals #83
  • Alim McNeil, DT, Detroit Lions #89
  • Tyrann Mathieu, S, New Orleans Saints #92

Indianapolis Colts offensive tackle Bernhard Raimann (79) and Indianapolis Colts tight end Kylen Granson (83) celebrate with Indianapolis Colts wide receiver Michael Pittman Jr. (11) after a touchdown Sunday, Sept. 10, 2023, during a game against the Jacksonville Jaguars at Lucas Oil Stadium in Indianapolis.

Pro Football Focus released their "2024 All-Breakout Team". Which highlights players at each position who they believe are about to have their breakout season. And the Indianapolis Colts had a player named to the team.  Bernhard Raimann, LT  "Raimann impressed as a rookie in 2022 but was even better last year, earning an 81.3 PFF pass-blocking […]
