The Indianapolis Colts made multiple significant roster decisions this offseason. Some moves were praised, such as signing Charvarius Ward and Cam Bynum, while others raised eyebrows, including the signing of Daniel Jones and letting Will Fries walk in free agency.
Next up on the docket for the Colts is training camp, with them set to report on July 22. Before they do, ESPN shared one last move they think the Colts should make before training camp kicks off, though, and it just so happens to be a veteran player that the fan base once begged the team to sign.
ESPN calls for the Colts to sign veteran safety Justin Simmons as their final major roster move ahead of training camp

"The Colts added Camryn Bynum from Minnesota as their new free safety, and they still have Nick Cross, who had 146 tackles last season. But Indianapolis could use some depth at the position since Daniel Scott has never seen the field in the regular season through two seasons and Hunter Wohler is a seventh-round rookie. Enter Simmons, who started for Atlanta last season and was second-team All-Pro in 2023. Simmons would also give Colts defensive coordinator Lou Anarumo the ability to play three-safety packages."
– ESPN's one final move for all 32 NFL teams
Fans likely recall last offseason, when the Colts were linked to Justin Simmons during training camp, as he took visits around the league. Ultimately, he ended up signing with the Atlanta Falcons, where he started 16 games and recorded two interceptions, seven pass deflections, and 62 total tackles. He certainly could have helped the Colts last season when they needed some veteran leadership in the secondary to join Kenny Moore II.
This year, the Colts made multiple moves to improve their secondary in terms of talent, and also added two veterans, Ward and Bynum, who were well respected in their locker rooms as leaders. If the Colts were to sign a veteran to add to their secondary, I think they would look at a corner to solidify the second starting outside CB spot. Simmons and the Colts were a great fit on paper a year ago, now, while he would undoubtedly improve the unit, I think they like Nick Cross and want to see him continue to grow as a player.
