Colts may be entering a bidding war for two-time Pro Bowler
A potential boost for the Colts.
Most of the focus concerning the Indianapolis Colts is on the NFL Draft. Specifically, what the team will do to upgrade the quarterback position this offseason.
However, free agency is also underway. And that is where the Colts will have the opportunity to make other important moves. Such as improving other positions to surround a potential rookie quarterback with.
One veteran name has already popped up for the Colts in the free agency rumor mill: former Minnesota Vikings wide receiver Adam Thielen. It appears that multiple teams, including Indianapolis, are in the market for the multi-time Pro Bowl pass catcher.
Thielen was released by the Vikings earlier this offseason as the 32-year old pass catcher searches for a new home. He had spent all nine of his professional seasons with the Vikings, so a change of scenery may be wanted.
He earned back-to-back Pro Bowl nods in 2017 and 2018. This past season, Thielen made 70 catches for 716 yards and six touchdowns. That showed that he still has some juice left in the tank that makes him an attractive free agent target.
The Colts have a need at pass catcher as they could use another weapon on offense. Michael Pittman and Alec Pierce have been key targets, but adding another receiver to an offense that will more than likely be playing a rookie signal caller isn't the worst idea.
Kansas City and the New York Giants are two other teams in the picture for the veteran wide receiver. Which means the Colts may have to get into a bidding war to win out in the sweepstakes. Especially since the Chiefs are coming off another Super Bowl and the Giants are looking to make the playoffs again.
It will be interesting to see how serious the Colts are about Adam Thielen. It might be worth saving some cash and targeting a wideout early in the draft.
