NFL insider shares major update on the Colts’ plan at QB for next season after Daniel Jones’ injury
The Colts have a tough decision to make, regarding whether to re-sign Daniel Jones, and Adam Schefter shares an update on the situation.
After how he exceeded everyone’s expectations to start the year, it seemed like a forgone conclusion that the Indianapolis Colts would re-sign Daniel Jones in the offseason. That was before he suffered a torn right Achilles tendon, though. There have been questions about whether the team will still commit to Jones as their starter in 2026, given his tough injury.
In recent weeks, it has seemed increasingly likely that the Colts want Jones back, even with the injury. NFL insider Adam Schefter has officially weighed in on the topic. He says the Colts will re-sign Jones and that he will be ready to start for the 2026 season.
NFL insider Adam Schefter believes the Colts will re-sign Daniel Jones
Schefter appeared on “The Pat McAfee Show”, where one topic was the Colts’ future direction. Of course, the QB situation arose, and whether Jones will return to the Colts in 2026.
“I think they are banking on Daniel Jones being back, and I do think that they will re-sign him. And I do think he will be ready for the start of the season,” Schefter said.
With it not even being January yet, that’s a pretty big statement from Schefter. He also said it with a lot of conviction, to be honest, which makes you think he’s pretty confident in the information.
At this point, the expectation should be that Jones is re-signed, hopefully at a reduced price than what he was set to get before the injury. Somewhere in the $20-25 million a year range would make sense to me and limit a lot of the risk on the Colts’ side.
