Schefter shared that multiple teams inquired about trading for Minnesota Vikings WR Justin Jefferson. One of those teams being the Colts. Jefferson is the consensus best WR in the NFL and if the Colts would have landed him it would have been one of the biggest trades in NFL history.

In the end of course the Colts didn't trade for the super star WR and instead the Vikings and Jefferosn reached an agreement to make him the highest paid WR in the NFL.

Jefferson only appeared in 10 games last season and still recorded over 1,000 yards, something he's done in all four seasons since being drafted in the 2020 NFL Draft. And though he struggled with an injury last season he led the NFL in receptions (128) and yards (1,809). The deal never even came close to happening but the Colts even picking up the phone is a clear pivot away from the passiveness the front office has operated with in previous years.

The Colts didn't pull off this trade but it showed how serious they were this offseason about adding a play maker to their offense. And in the end it they used the draft to fill that need, in Adonai Mitchell out of Texas who they drafted in the 2nd round of the 2024 NFL Draft.
