Latest update on Charvarius Ward gives some amazing news about the Colts CB’s future after latest injury
NFL insider shares a big update on Colts CB Charvarius Ward’s future following his third concussion of the year.
The Indianapolis Colts had multiple injury updates to share after their loss in Week 14 to the Jacksonville Jaguars. On top of losing QB Daniel Jones to a torn right Achilles, they also placed Charvarius Ward in the league’s concussion protocol.
This is the third concussion he has suffered this year, and they elected to place him on the IR, ending his season. His last concussion sent him to a dark place mentally, and admittedly, he even considered whether his playing career was coming to an end. NFL insider Adam Schefter has an update on where things stand for the CB and if retirement is on the horizon.
Charvarius Ward isn’t considering retirement
After hearing Ward share how hard his last concussion hit him, many began to wonder if he could retire from the NFL. Thankfully, that doesn’t seem to be on his mind at the moment, according to Schefter. Which means the CB should be locked in to be back with the Colts next season.
A significant reason the Colts made the trade for Sauce Gardner was their strong preference for pairing him with Ward on the outside. The team believes they have two number one CBs; sadly, they weren’t able to watch the duo together much this year.
The hope is they can get both players healthy this offseason, which should allow the duo to get off to a good start in 2026. If Ward were to retire this offseason, the Colts would yet again be trying to figure out who would start at one of their cornerback spots. And with the team moving two first-round picks for Gardner, that would have been less than ideal to have concerns at the position still.
